At the close of the 19th century, Laurys Station in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania was home to one of the most beloved amusement parks in the region.  Laury's Island, a destination belonging to the Lehigh Valley Railroad, drew tourists from all over the railroad line with its wholesome entertainments and beautiful natural surroundings.  Steamboat rides, concerts by the Allentown Band, and even a showcase of Edison's moving pictures lured visitors to Laury's Island and the nearby Hotel Laury.  But it all ended in 1906, and despite its incredible popularity, Laury's Island became forgotten.  Few images survive to the present day, and it rarely appears even on lists of defunct parks.  What became of this island retreat in the Lehigh River?  Explore the park's fifteen years of music and merriment, complete with biographical sketches of the Laury family of Laurys Station and clippings from the Lehigh Valley's major news outlets of the day. -- from back cover.
